I am so sad to learn of Callie's death. She and I were fast friends in college, did our senior thesis together, shared many laughs together and remained friends for many years after. Whenever I returned to Chicago she was first on my list of friends to visit. Her strong spirit and marvelous artistic talents are what I will long remember.

A very sad passing for many. My sympathies to Callie's family & Martha. Callie & I were childhood friends, and I broke my arm as a 5 year old jumping the picket fence between our houses and landing on my arm. I also inherited the black cat that the Hansens couldn't keep. Perhaps their beagle (Muffie?) didn't like the cat. In the 1950s, candy bars were a nickle, and on summer days either Callie or I would be given a dime by one of our parents & we would split it to buy two candy bars at the corner drug store - Keefer & Templeton's. Fond memories from a bygone era. A friend to be missed. John Keeran

Callie and I first became friends while attending Willard Elementary School, in Evanston; that close friendship lasted into young adulthood. We shared classes, many friends, Brownies, Girl Scouts and plans for the future. Callie's love of family was always a cornerstone in her life; may that love be a source of peace and joy as you honor her beautiful spirit.

Martha, I was greatly saddened when my sister, Sue, a friend of Callie's since high school, told me about her death. I know from Sue and her friends what a special person Callie was as well as from knowing your gifts and appreciating you, her sister. Mike and Meredith join me in extending to you and your family our heartfelt condolence. We are thinking about you and Shirley during this sad time.

When Martha and Shirley share stories about Callie all I can think of is boy...I wish I knew her. She was clearly loved and appreciated for her many kindnesses, her sense of humor (right up until the end) and her strength. Callie, you leave behind so many fans, hope you know just how deeply you are missed. Rest in peace.
