SEDALIA - Mabel Ernestine Cummings Martin daughter of the late Addie McMaster and Ernest Cummings was born in Guilford County, NC on August 10, 1928.
She was married in 1949, to the late John Willie Martin. To this union five children were born. She was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church in Sedalia, NC where she served on the Senior Choir, Vice-President of the United Methodist Women. She also served as lay-leader and a certified lay speaker.
She was a member and past Worthy Matron of Five Point Chapter #510 Order of the Eastern Star in McLeansville, NC. As a co-organizer of the McLeansville Ladies Community Club, she served many years as president.
She was a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University and taught in the public schools of Guilford and Orange Counties. For many years, she worked with Senior Citizens groups in Greensboro and the McLeansville-Sedalia Communities, as well as serving as Director for a Youth Summer Camp.
She leaves to cherish sons Michael (Janice) and Mitchell (Jacquelyn), daughters Cynthia Martin, Carol King and Marsha (Kerry) Goodman. She also leaves ten grandchildren, Monique, Mitchell II, Johnathan, Kristin, Meisha, Michael, Matthew, Meghan, Jamie and Kerry Jr and one great grandson, Lyndon. Also, one sister, Addie Lamb a special nephew, Eugene Cummings. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and all of her "special" daughters and sons.
The body can be viewed on Monday from 1 to 9 pm at Sharpe Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 11 to 12 noon at Ebenezer UCC and at other times at the home.
The homegoing services for Mrs. Martin will begin at 12 noon on Tuesday at Ebenezer UCC.
Burial will be at St. James United Methodist Church, Sedalia NC.
