My deepest sympathy to Moira & family. As a naïve townie Malcolm guided me through an education I will never forget. The long hot summers of 1967 through to 1970 I spent up to one month a year every summer staying with our grandmothers and experiencing the adventures of life in Opunake with my cousin. Spearing eels out the back of the cheese factory, possum hunting with just a dog (Sally) and a knife, making pocket money helping on the milk run, playing TV hero's battles over the at Pa, Contiki fishing off the breakwater, chasing penguins over the rocks, shooting rats (slug gun) over the dump. Even getting into fist fights with some of the tuff locals. As a 10 year old I felt a strong sense of mentoring from Malcolm (2 years my senior) and a quiet strong kindness not found in many people. Truly a great loss of a life that I know has touched so many people in a positive way.
R.I.P Malcolm.
