Sue Ellen Thompson, age 56 years, passed away peacefully on Thursday afternoon, October 3, 2019 at McLaren Bay Region. She was born on September 13, 1963 in Bay City, the daughter of Owen and Nancy (Goyett) Thompson. Sue began working at Bay Medical Center as a candy striper while in high school and that blossomed into a career stretching over 34 years. She was an Outpatient Lab Clerk, retiring in 2015 from McLaren Bay Region. Sue was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and enjoyed U of M football games, coloring and the Wizard of Oz. Surviving family include her mother, Nancy Thompson; sister, Barbara (Dave) Nelson; brother, Richard (Maggie) Thompson; niece, Katie (Matt) Lesoski and daughters Olivia and Andrea; nephew, Ryan (Kara) Thompson; niece, Emily (Alex) Lane and daughter Sophia; nieces, Kayleigh and Melissa Nelson; and Sue's best friend of 50 years, Lori Bartkowiak. Sue was preceded in death by her father, Owen Thompson. Funeral service will be at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019 at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Garcia officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday from 12 noon until the time of the service at 4:00 p.m. Private burial will be at Green Ridge Cemetery. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Sue was one of my very first friends when I started my freshmen year at Central High School. We had soooo many good and crazy times together! Like when we had this brainy idea to go to Bronners Christmas Wonderland on Thanksgiving weekend...not the best idea, it was so crowded...we were just glad we got out with no bruises. But we did have a blast. And when we showed up at TV-5 just before 6 o'clock so we could watch a newscast in person (and afterward they let us pretend to be news anchors behind the desk.) We laughed and laughed. I miss her so much already. Her family is just so sweet, and I am keeping them all in my prayers during this difficult time. Thank you Lord for the gift of Sue....Missy Strope Davert

Nancy, Barb and family,
I had the pleasure of working with Susie for many many years in OP lab. She became very dear to me. We shared many good times together and a few sad. It was hard to be in a bad mood with Sue in the room. She was a true professional. Always treated the patients with sincere kindness.
Kind and so passionate. I'm sure as she looks down from heaven (with her blue and gold wings) it's with a smile and a big shout out, Go Blue. Rest in peace dear friend.

Sue was a good friend. Her smile and laughter would light up the room. We went to high school together and she taught me about VHS recorders back then. How great home movies were. We meet through the Strope family (Missy) and that crazy house back in the day. We remained friends through the years as I would see her at the hospital from time to time. Wish I would have kept in touch with her better over these years. We always think there is time yet. There isn't is there. She, her family and friends are in my prayer, always. So many memories to share. The best is her shining face every time I saw her. The big smile and her wonderful laughter. I'm going to miss her. Our time is so short. Be like Sue - Laugh, smile and enjoy life, family and friends as much as you can. Life is far to short not to.

I was very saddened to hear of Sue's passing on Facebook. My heart is broken. She was one of my favorite cousins. She and I had something in common. I will miss her very, very much.

I am going to miss her a lot as she was considered a family member to the VanTols and the Robinson families. She had such a beautiful smile and very awesome personality. It has been awhile since I've seen Sue because I now live in the Dallas area but I did keep up with her on Facebook and cheering on the Wolverines with her. I will be praying for y'all at this time of Sorrow. Thank you
