Donald Anderson Obituary

Donald R. Anderson, age 91, passed away at the Willimansett West Care Center on Nov 8, 2019 surrounded by the care and comfort of his family. He was born in New Britain, Ct on Jun 30, 1928 to the late William and Estelle (Dwojakowski) Anderson. Donald moved to Springfield with his family in 1939 and moved to Chicopee in 1954 where he lived until his death. He worked at the Fisk/Uniroyal Tire Plant in Chicopee for 36 years until it closed in 1980 then became employed at Hamilton Standard of Ct. where he retired in 1990. He was a communicant of Holy Name Parish in the Assumption Church in Chicopee. Donald served his Country proudly in the US Army, during the Korean War Era with the 175th MP Battalion, APO 46, in Germany. In his leisure time, Donald enjoyed RV camping, fishing, boating and spending his summers in Stonington, Ct. which he enjoyed with his wife and family for many years. Donald leaves his loving wife of 65 Years Jeannine R. (Lambert) Anderson of Chicopee, his children, Donna Blews Pappas and her husband Arthur of Westfield, Marie Asselin and her husband David Asselin of Chicopee, and son Donald P. Anderson also of Chicopee. His beloved grandchildren Sherri Blews, Shelly Anderson, Eric Anderson, Emily Asselin and Natalie Asselin one great granddaughter Kyra Anderson and his little dog Angie. Donald also leaves a brother William Anderson of Santa Ana, Ca, and a sister Elizabeth West of Maine. He was predeceased by one brother, Robert Anderson in 2013. The family would like to thank the staff at the Willimansett West Care Center for their wonderful and compassionate care they gave Donald during his time there. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, Nov 15, 2019 at 11:30 am at Holy Name Parish in the Assumption Church in Chicopee. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. Visiting Hours will be held on the morning of the funeral Friday, Nov 15, 2019 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee. To Aunt Jean, Marie, Donna and Donald, and all of your family. Jerry and I are so very sorry for your loss. Uncle Donald was such a great family man and had a great nature. Always a pleasure to be with. I have lots of wonderful childhood memories of Uncle Donald. Memories we will hold onto for all of our lives. Rest in Peace, Uncle. Love you.
