David M. Wilber, age 66. Beloved husband of Cynthia (nee Wolff); dear father of Lindsey Grdina (Edward), Elizabeth "Liz" Wilber (Erick Vignal); grandfather of Julia and Oliver; dear brother of Betty Ryan (Dick), Patricia Marquard (Jerry, dec.), Richard, Robert (Regina) and the late John "Jay"; uncle and great-uncle to many. David was a proud graduate of St. Edward High School, class of 1971, and attended John Carroll University and Baldwin Wallace College. He was a sail maker for nearly three decades, after which he worked in custom home building. David and Cyndi met through sailing and were married over 40 years. He loved his family and most recently cherished his time with grandbabies, Julia and Oliver. Growing up on the North Coast, he had a passion for being on the water, predominantly competitive sailing, as well as acting as Principal Race Officer or as a US Sailing Judge. He spent decades at the Cleveland Yachting Club and Edgewater Yacht Club. David imparted his love of sailing and his competitive edge to daughter, Liz. David fought a long battle with cancer for over six years, outliving the original prognosis of 6-9 months. We were blessed to have him here to see his beautiful daughters wed and walking his baby girls down the aisle brought him one of his greatest joys. A fiercely loyal friend to many, his smile and sense of humor will be sorely missed. He leaves a legacy of love of family, sailing, kindness, and service. Memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 20141 Detroit Road, Rocky River on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at 11 am with visitation one hour prior to the Mass. I am sorry to hear of your loss. I'm just by accident finding this out this morning. February 18 th, 2021. I knew Dave via CYC and our families vacationed a couple summers sailing up into Canada with other families. Such a wonderful person. I'm sorry he had cancer and he has passed. Not surprised he fought so hard to be a survivor. A wonderful person.

I am so very sorry to hear about David's passing. My deepest condolences. David was a great man and a great sailor. I had the pleasure of sailing with and against him for over 40 years. The world lost a great person, but heaven sure picked up a wonderful sailing ambassador.

Another wave just hit me
I felt it rage through my aching heart
And roll down my face.

I will keep you close and recognize you
In the southern breezes of spring.

I will feel you all around me in the warmth
of the summer's sun.

I will see you in the glistening of the water as
the sun lays down at night.

You fought so hard, you didn't want to leave.
But, alas we knew, you had to set sail.
So now, I know you are at peace
with one hand on the tiller, the other on the sheet.

Another wave just hit and rolled
down my cheek.
