Beatriz Dedios Santana

June 28, 1994 - January 9, 2020

Beautiful, Resilient, full of Wanderlust, Free-spirited, Animal lover. When she walked into a room, everyone noticed her warm smile shine across the room.

On January 9, 2020, the world lost a heavenly soul in a fatal car crash when Beatriz was only a minute away from her home in Bow, Washington.

Beatriz Dedios-Santana was born on June 28, 1994 to Carlos Dedios and Dora Santana at the University of Washington in Seattle. She grew up in Stanwood, WA with three other siblings, Carlos, Joselin, and Adam Dedios-Santana. Since she was the eldest, she watched over all of them and became their role model while she traversed through the world herself.

Beatriz was as independent and responsible as they come. She got her first job at Warm Beach Christian Camp at the age of 14. She graduated from Stanwood High School in 2012, after this, she attended Skagit Valley Community College. While at Skagit, she worked at Bob’s Burgers and Brew in Burlington, where she met the love of her life, Jimmy Brittian, through his brother Ivan and started dating him in 2016.

After a year, she decided Skagit Valley Comunity College wasn’t the best fit for her, so she applied to Whatcom Community College, moved to Bellingham and stayed at Whatcom until 2015.

In 2017, she resigned from her position as a waitress at Bob’s and started working at the Old Edison. She later returned to Bob’s and held both of these jobs until the end of her life. Beatriz had such a big personality, it’s no wonder she was so good at her jobs.

Beatriz applied to Western Washington University after graduating from Whatcom Community College and was accepted. She finished her degree and was part of the Class of 2019. She majored in Biology/Anthropology and got a minor in Chemistry. This would initiate her search for jobs as a Laboratory Technician.

Beatriz had two pets. She first got her pitbull, Diamond, in 2013 after the passing of our family dog, Tequila. Through Katie Brittain, she found out about Diamond and saved her from a neglectful owner. Unfortunately, since she could not have pets in the apartment she lived in at the time, she gave Diamond to her parents so they could care for her on a daily basis, but she still came and spent as much time with her as possible. Around a month before Beatriz’s passing, she had adopted a black kitten named Binx with Jimmy. She loved and cared for Diamond and Binx as if they were her own children.

After graduating from Western, Beatriz lived her life to the fullest. She and Jimmy would travel to Cabo, a road trip to San Francisco, and spent New Years in Leavenworth. This is just scratching the surface of what she did/accomplished. Near the end of her life, if you were to look at her face whenever she walked into any room, it was undeniable how happy she was. She even talked to her sister about how content she was with her life the last time they were together, 2 days before her passing. Beatriz adored her family, her friends, and her loving boyfriend, Jimmy and she made it known.Beatriz had the biggest green thumb, she was so passionate about not only the environment but also about helping others. We believe she was an angel placed on this Earth to spread her positivity in this world.

Beatriz is survived by her parents, Dora Santana and Carlos Dedios, her two brothers, Carlos and Adam Dedios-Santana, her younger sister, Joselin Dedios-Santana, and the love of her life, Jimmy Brittian.

All who were touched by Beatriz’s life are welcomed to her public viewing at this Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Gilbertson Funeral Home located on 27001 88th Ave NW, Stanwood, WA 98292, from 9 a.m to 8 p.m. Beatriz will also have a rosary at 11 a.m and a mass at 12:15 p.m at the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church located on 400 N. 15th St., Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
