Edward Barbieri Obituary

Published by Craft Givnish Funeral Home Inc on Jan. 29, 2020.
Edward J. Barbieri "Ed", of Abington, passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2020. He was 72 years old. Ed was the son of Sophia (née Canosa) Barbieri and the late Italo John Barbieri. Ed had a passion for science and teaching; after receiving his Bachelor's Degree of Science in Pharmacy in 1970 from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science (now the University of the Sciences), he worked as a pharmacist at Abington Pharmacy, founded by his father. Ed chose to pursue post-graduate training at PCPS, and subsequently earned his Master's Degree of Science in Pharmacology in 1972, and his PhD in Pharmacology in 1975. Ed then went on to be a valued colleague and teacher as a member of the Pharmacology faculty at Hahnemann Medical College for 25 years. He subsequently transitioned to a role as a forensic toxicologist for NMS Labs in Horsham, where he continued mentoring and helping build programs. An avid sports fan, Ed especially enjoyed the Philadelphia Flyers, where he was a season ticket holder for almost 50 years. He also coached youth baseball and soccer, collected stamps, and enjoyed building model planes and trains. Ed was a devoted family man. In addition to his mother, Ed is survived by his wife, Felicia (née Corsaro) Barbieri along with his sons: Matthew T. Barbieri and his wife Cindy, and Christopher E. Barbieri and his wife Anu, as well as his siblings: Richard Barbieri and his wife Patricia and Amy Camp and her husband John. He may be most fondly remembered and missed by his grandchildren: Ravi, Leo, Violet, and Grant, who he truly treasured. Relatives and friends are invited to Ed's Life Celebration on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, 1500 Marian Rd. Abington, PA 19001 followed by his funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ed's name may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org. Family services are entrusted under the care of Craft-Givnish of Abington, Inc. 215-659-2000.

Only recently did I learn of Ed's death, and was deeply saddened by that news. I was fortunate to know and work with Ed during his years as a graduate student at PCPS. Ed was one of our best - highly intelligent, creative, scientifically solid, a warm and caring man. My fondest memories of Ed remain to this day. Sincere condolences to Felicia and his family.

I remember first meeting Ed at the lunch table with my friend Joan at NMS Labs.
He would always have a funny joke to tell. He was so funny. He will truly be missed
by me and all who knew him. Deepest Condolences to his wife and family.

I took this picture a few years ago at the Tox holiday luncheon. Ed was smiling as usual. Rest in peace, Ed. Love, Laura Labay

Barbieri family,
Working Ed at NMS was always a pleasure. I especially enjoyed talking to him about some of his hobbies. We shared similar intrests of stamp collecting and occasionally wine. I am sending all of you prayers of strength and comfort at this difficult time.
