Anthony S. Gionataiso
WWII Navy veteran, Woodbridge resident since the 1960s
Anthony S. Gionataiso, 95, of Woodbridge Township, N.J., passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2020.
Born in Elizabeth, N.J., he came to Woodbridge Township in 1963.
Mr. Gionataiso was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran serving as the flight deck captain aboard the USS Bennington. He also served aboard the USS Hancock and witnessed the signing of the Japanese surrender documents aboard the USS Missouri.
Anthony was a member of the Iselin Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Surviving are his children, Ellen Rohrbach, Alexis Cruz and Gena Gates; a sister, Mary Ann Partelow. He was also loved by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, at 10 a.m. in the Pettit-Davis Funeral Home, 371 West Milton Ave., Rahway, N.J. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, Linden, N.J. Visiting will be held on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
