Cheryl passed away on March 21, 2020 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Cheryl was born on September 1, 1952 in Beech Grove to Martha & Bill Payne. Cheryl was raised by Martha & Robert Turner. She married William Kirby Smith in 1971, her husband of 29 years. She is survived by her children, William Clinton Smith of Wilkinson & Kelly Smith of Indianapolis. Cheryl was also "Grammy" to Ashlynn Smith, Isiah Ford, Clay Smith, Carson Smith, & Colten Smith. Other survivors include her mother, Martha Turner; sisters, Cindy Payne, Cathy Owens, & Carla Horrigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kirby; and father, Robert Turner. Cheryl graduated from Eastern Hancock in 1970. She attended cosmetology school in Indianapolis. She was a hairdresser for many years before motherhood. Once Cheryl became a mother, she stayed home with her children. Cheryl then worked for Smith Implements for 35 years, where she loved working with the employees and customers. Cheryl was known as the "Mother Hen" at work and prided herself on being a mother to many. She took care of her work family and customers just like she took care of her family. Cheryl had many passions and interests. She loved to travel with friends, tending her flower garden, but her biggest passion was her family. She loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events and watching them show pigs at the Hancock County 4-H Fair. A Celebration of Cheryl's life will be held at a later date due to COVID-19. Graveside Services will be held for family and close friends on Wednesday March 25, at Grove Lawn Cemetery in Pendleton. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Memorial of Cheryl Smith, c/o Greenfield Banking Company, ATTN: Teller Line, 1920 N State Street, Greenfield, IN 46140 Arrangements are entrusted to Condo & St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory.

Cheryl and Kirby are together after almost 20 years. Two fine people you always looked forward to seeing. Cheryl always had a big smile on her face and was a joy to be around. She and Kirby will live on in our hearts.

I used to go spend alot of time at Cheryls house when I was growing up. Her sister Cathy and I were best friends. I used to be in awe of her as a young girl growing up. She was so sweet and I thought soooo beautiful. She always have a sweet heart. I never felt like she brushed a young teen girl off or didnt have time for my gawking at her. I am so sorry that she left us way to soon. I know she will be missed by alot of people.❤❤❤

Kelly and family:
So sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Your mother looks like she was so happy in life but now rest assured she is smiling down at all of you and praying for all to keep safe. No one can take all your beautiful and fun loving memories from you. Cherish each day to the fullest and remember God never gives us more than what he thinks we can handle. Love you dear friend.
