Jerry received a Bronze Star for gallantry while with the 525 Signal Corps, 3rd Battalion of the 1st Cavalry. He was a broadcast engineer His entire working life. As a child he developed a passion for radio, which grew to include TV as well. He started working at WIBM radio station in Jackson while still in high school. After he was discharged from the Army, He finished off his college degree from Ferris State University, with a First Class Radio and TV License. I worked with Jerry on and off from the 1980s through the 1990s when I had occasion to teach some of my Computer Science classes on TV, and then later using the large classrooms in the Duderstadt Building on North Campus. He was always a steady hand in using the broadcast technology and helped me to fit into to it over many years. I appreciated his technical knowledge and patience with me. I was happy to be able to talk to him again in 2019 at the memorial service for a common friend, Fred Remley, in Ann Arbor. Jerry was truly a great colleague.

Dear Denise and Family,

I remember with heartfelt thanks a truly caring, generous, and giving man at St. Pat's. He always had a smile and brought warmth to the people around him. Thank you for the support that you must have given him as he must have suffered recently while in Hospice. Jerry and you, his family, have been a blessing to us all.

Jerry was one of the most genuine, compassionate individuals I have had the joy of knowing. He had no match here on earth with his electrical knowledge and interest. There simply was nothing he could not solve. May the angels guide Jerry quickly to his heavenly home. ❤

Dear Denise and Family,
We proclaim in our Catholic Burial Rite, "The sadness of death gives way to the bright promise of immortality. Lord, for your faithful people, life is changed, not ended."
I fondly remember our days at Old St. Patrick Parish in Ann Arbor/Whitmore Lake. We served as ushers, Fish Fry workers, Labor Day Weekend volunteers, and Youth Ministry.
Do you recall that in August 1996 I went off to seminary, but had a problem finding a home for my Cocker Poodle, Muffin? And how Emily kept after you to take her home? And how you finally did, the day before I left? What a relief!
I hope to be kept informed of funeral plans, and would love to offer my condolences in person.
God Bless Jerry.
And God Love You! (As Fr. Terry always says.)

Very sorry to hear this news. Jerry was always nice and I had a nice visit with him at our 50th class reunion not too long ago. The McCarthy family were good people and I hope Joe reads this and know he is in our thoughts and prayers.
