Missing my god-brother and the great memories from our youth. It is not the same without him. As the years go by, I realize there are more friends and family over there than here. And I am reminded we will meet again. Love to the family.

Not realizing it has been a year since his passing, my godbrother has been on my mind lately. Loved ones tend to drift in and out of my thoughts like that. I remember Jerry coming with me for my first day of college. I can hear his voice mimic and imitate my nervousness. I was one of many small town girls being dropped off at Howard University for the first time. Through the years, Jerry reminded me how my roommate and I prepared to head to the Wall for inspection! Then my mind goes back to Jerry's college years in Atlanta. I'll never forget how he reinvented himself into his own version of a Morehouse man. He returned to NY looking great. Each of us tried our best in our own way to fit into our new lives.
From our single digit years, our families got together monthly. We reached many milestones together between New York and New Jersey. Jerry knew my best friends and cousins and I knew his boys and family. We celebrated and mourned life with each graduation, wedding, sickness and funeral. We forged memories together and did our best to erase tragedies. Through the years we grew up and grew apart. But each time we saw each other, the love and affection was rekindled.
I have no regrets about how things turned out. Yes, I miss my "other brother" very much. But I believe he has eternal rest, among his family and friends and mine. I know I will see Jerry again, and I'll laugh once again like no one else could make me laugh. I love you, godbrother, and we will get together in the great beyond.

Growing up, Jerry was my closest family friend, my godbrother. Over the years, we spent great times together, up and down the east coast. For me, Jerry was not simply about academia and business. He was a great story teller, orator, comedian and dancer. He gave good counsel and received it as well. He made life exciting by being a major part of mine. I look forward to seeing you again, my brother, in Eternity. You fought a good fight!
