June Tanner Obituary

Published by Heritage Oaks Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Services on Jun. 23, 2020.
June Marie Tanner was born 90 years ago on July 8, 1930 in DeForest, Wisconsin. She attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota where she met and married Ira Jacob Tanner for 63 years. She began her career as a home economist as Betty Crocker atGeneral Mills in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1959 June and Ira relocated to northern California while raising their four daughters. June started working again in 1969 as a teacher at Washington High School in Sacramento and later at Folsom High School as a Home Economics teacher. Some of June's greatest joys were helping others, counseling and befriending her students. During these busy years she sewed clothes for her daughters, for their dolls and taught her daughters' friends how to sew. In 1980 at the age of 50, June received her Master's degree in counseling. She worked for the next 26 years as a counselor in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District as a licensed alcohol abuse counselor and maintained a private practice specializing in substance abuse. After retiring in 1998, June returned to working as a part time counselor in the drop out/ adult education program with Folsom Cordova Unified School District until 2007. She extended her generosity while volunteering at Kaiser Hospital for three years. In her retirement, she volunteered at the American Cancer Society Discover store in Roseville where she loved assembling clothing outfits and visiting with the customers. She had a ready smile and sweet words for everyone. June devoted her life to her husband and the families of her four daughters. June and Ira spent close to 50 summers at their cabin in Minnesota where family and college friends convened every year. She loved traveling and took many trips around the world. Her many interests included her daily walks with neighbor friends, her book club, socializing with work colleagues and making new friends. June always welcomed family and friends into her home with open arms, homemade dinners and warm hospitality. A highlight of June's life was taking her family of 17 (daughters, husbands and grandchildren) to Hawaii to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. June leaves behind her four daughters: Connie Huggett (Rand), Kristi Wyant, Kathy Ynclan and Mary Titus (Mark); seven grandchildren: Josh Huggett (Christina), Kyle Huggett (Brandie), Jessica Wyant, Rachele Wyant, Shane Ynclan, Haley Titus and Drew Titus (Megan); and four great-grandchildren. Her sister, Carol Hembre lives near Denver, Colorado and her sister-in-law Jean Tanner Harney resides in Scottsdale, Arizona. She loved her family dearly. June is preceded in death by her husband Ira, her father and mother, her sister Lois Duppen, and her sons-in-law Bill Ynclan and Jeff Wyant. In the summer of 2021 June will be buried next to Ira at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Amor Minnesota. At this time a memorial service in California has not been scheduled. If interested in being notified by family when a service is planned, please write an email to Kristi ([email protected]).

I knew June, and Ira, at Kaiser Permanente Volunteer Services. I interviewed both and supervised them as they served at the medical center. Both were very kind and giving people, all smiles and willing to help others. It was a privelege to know them, and to have this remarkable couple serve at our medical center. May God bless your family at this time.

June was a wonderful person. She was always able to successfully communicate with her student and motivate them in a positive way.

June is sorely missed by friends, family, and the Folsom HS book club, better known as the BAGS, of which she was a member. June was one of the most gracious and kind people I've ever known. And she was as beautiful outside as she was inside. Rest in peace, June.

We drove across the Golden Gate Bridge. She did not want to get out of the car because the wind would mess up her hair, I wrapped the scarf around her head and said lets go enjoy the view. She was always a go-getter with a smile! Miss her and her every day joy she would bring to our talks!

Farewell, dear friend, and thanks for all the beautiful memories! And thanks to you and Ira for your warm support for Jacqui when she moved to Sacramento. You embody the very concept of friendship! With love from Marti and Tim
