Dr. Jose Oliver Riojas

Dr. Jose Oliver Riojas, age 38, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020 in Chicago, IL. Jose was born on January 26, 1982 in Eagle Pass, TX to Dr. Jose Riojas, Jr. OD and Irasema Del Rio Riojas. Jose attended Eagle Pass High School and was part of the graduating class of 2000. From there, he went on to UTSA where he would graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. He then taught for three years as a band director with NEISD. Jose would further his education at the University of Tennessee where he received his Masters in Music and then continued his education in training at the University of Georgia where he would obtain his Doctorate in Musical Arts. Jose worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois in Chicago where he continued his passion for teaching music. On occasion, Jose would assist with conducting the Chicago Symphony. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irasema D. Riojas. Jose is survived by his father, Dr. Jose Riojas, Jr., OD of Eagle Pass, TX; his daughter, Nadia Riojas and her mother, Priscilla Ramos of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Cristobal J. Riojas of San Antonio, TX and Dr. David P. Riojas, OD of Houston, TX; and his sister, Daniela E. Riojas of Los Angeles, CA.
