Kathleen Cissie Reed, age 93, of Battle Creek died Monday evening, November 23, 2020. She was born in Battle Creek on September 21, 1927, the daughter of John and Agnes (Henderson) McGinness of Paisley, Scotland. Her parents came to the United States in 1923 and returned to Scotland in 1924. They returned to the US again in 1927 of which Kathleen was born in Battle Creek. They returned to Scotland later in 1927, due to her parents being homesick and they were on the brink of the Great Depression and the upheaval on the European continent prior to WWII. Kathleen lived thru the Great Depression and WWII in Scotland as the German Air Command flew over her city on bombing missions night after night for 6 years. Kathleen and her sisters ran to the air raid shelters while wearing their gas masks. Kathleen returned to the US in 1948 to Allegan, MI to live with her aunt, uncle & cousins. She met Frank Joseph Reed after his return from WWII and they married January 15, 1949; he preceded her in death on May 2, 2012. Kathleen is survived by her 2 sons, John T. (Connie) Reed and Frank J. Reed, both of Battle Creek; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen A. (Reed) Klaiss; a granddaughter; and her parents. Kathleen loved her family with all her heart and enjoyed being involved with their lives. At Kathleen's request, no visitation or services are being planned. She will join her husband at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the American Diabetes Association, the Shriners Hospitals for Children, and or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
