Mr. Richard Stephen "Dick" Holy

Richard "Dick" Holy passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 19th, 2021, holding the hands of his wife, son, and daughter after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard was a native of Northeast Ohio, born in Garfield Heights on October 23rd, 1950. As a boy, he excelled on the track and in the weight room. He was tall, broad-shouldered and, after high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Corporal. Richard's early years forged his strong work ethic and fashioned him into a pillar of integrity and poise. Nonetheless, he was warm and witty in conversation, always intent on listening to others. After his service, Richard put himself through school. He possessed an uncanny knack for numbers and a love of reading; he was a lifelong student. Richard graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a BS in Computer Science and a BS in Industrial Management. He also obtained an MBA from the University of Wisconsin and had a CPA certification. He was dependable and thorough in his work, well-respected and affable with colleagues, which propelled him to a successful career in accounting and management. Richard began each morning anew, undaunted by the events of yesterday or the worries of tomorrow. He ended each evening lifting weights or running at the local track or the Metroparks. Above all, Richard was a devoted family man; a source for strength, encouragement and calm. He met the love of his life, Nora, "out of nowhere" in North Dakota. They happily married in 1980 and returned to Ohio to raise a beautiful family, just a stone's throw from parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Duty to family was Richard's guiding light in life. He was always there, ready and willing to make sacrifices for his family. No matter the time, day, or place, he was there to pull up a chair, pick up the phone or make a drive. Through it all, Richard was, and remains, a man who did what was right, not what was easy. Richard is survived by a loving family that cherishes his memory. He was the beloved husband of Nora (nee Ortegón) for 40 years, the proud father to Ryan (Ahsiya) Holy and Annie (Peter) Neelon, the dedicated son to the late Ann & Andrew Holy, and the loyal brother to John (Karen) Holy. Richard was the loving son-in-law to Ana & Eduardo Ortegón, and brother-in-law to Maria (Cecil) Roth, Eduardo (Tammy) Ortegón, Sonia (late Kirk) Chapin, Nancy (Owen) Johnson, Fredy (Marcia) Ortegón and Edgar (Melissa) Ortegón. He was a dear cousin to Marilyn (Robert) Campellone, the late Paul (Ann) Chrewan, Marlene (Fred) Dray, Deborah (Bill) Oberle, Pat Klima, Bill Klima, Thomas Klima, and uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. A private service will be held for the family and a celebration of Richard's life will be held later in 2021.
