Thomas William Plew

Thomas William Plew, 71, of Anderson, Indiana, went home to be with his Savior on Sunday, January 31st, after a month-long battle with COVID-19. Tom was born on October 14, 1949 to Chet and JoAnn Plew in Anderson. After graduating from Madison Heights in 1967, he joined the Navy. He was given a medical discharge after his two years of domestic service due to his hearing impairments and then began work at Guide Corporation in Anderson in 1970. He worked there for thirty-three years before retiring. After retirement, Tom's desire to stay busy led him to be a helper with any projects his children had. He even began custodial work at his children's school, Indiana Christian Academy, so he could stay involved. During this time, he also began working at Continental Corporation in Anderson. In high school, Tom met Kathy Lewis, his "favorite majorette," at band camp, and they married in 1970. As young Christians, Tom and Kathy began attending Grace Baptist Church in 1974. Tom began working in both the deaf and bus ministries right away, and, in 1975, became a deacon, an office which he held for over forty years, serving several years as chairman. He loved his Lord above all and wanted to serve Him as long as he was able. His love extended to all those he knew and influenced, but of course, most of all, his family, whom he often exclaimed he could "squeeze to pieces." He was rarely seen without a smile, a joyful countenance, and a ready and sincere interest in the lives of those around him. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Chester Plew, mother, JoAnn (Watkins) Plew, brother Terry Plew, and grandson Kiernan Smith (Jennifer). He is survived by his wife, Kathy Plew of Anderson, and their four children, Kevin (Kimberly) Plew, Joshua (Tiffanie) Plew, Jason Plew, and Jennifer (Kenny) Smith. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren. Kevin's children: Abby, Hannah, Kendall, and Seth; Josh's children: Preslie, Pierson, Paityn, Porter, Paxton, and Parker; and Jenny's children: Keaton and Kolten Smith. Tom's visitation service will be held Wednesday, February 3rd, from 4pm-8pm. His homegoing service will be held Thursday, February 4th, at 10am. Both events will take place at Grace Baptist Church, 432 W 300 N, Anderson, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Indiana Christian Academy or Grace Baptist Church.
