Kirk Cheatham Obituary

Published by Eastgate Funeral Home - Garland on Feb. 18, 2021.
Kirk Fowler Cheatham was born September 27, 1955 in Amarillo, TX to Bruce and Wanda Cheatham. He died February 18, 2021 after a brief and hard-fought battle with cancer. He lived in a variety of places growing up with major stops in Midland and Corpus Christi, Texas, Lafayette, Louisiana, Alamo, California and Denver, Colorado. He enjoyed sports including football and basketball which he played in high school. He attended SMU in Dallas where he became a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He later completed his degree in business at the University of Texas, Dallas. Kirk had a creative side that ranged from singing in musical numbers, playing musical instruments, and working with his hands. He loved dancing, billiards, home remodeling, wood working, gardening, and the beach. He was an avid fisherman and treasured his days fishing with his father at the family ranch. He started working summers on a geophysical boat in Alaska and later construction in East Texas. Most of his professional life was spent in the restaurant business where his ability to connect with people made him an engaging waiter and for many years a well-respected manager at Dallas area restaurants. Kirk married June in May of 1986 and they were inseparable for the next 35 years. Kirk is survived by his wife June Garland Cheatham, as well as Chris and Wendy Jenkins, and their son Logan. Additionally, Kirk is survived by his father, Bruce Cheatham, and stepmother Janet Harris Cheatham, and other family members: Kirk's brother Bruce Cheatham Jr. and wife Debbie, their son Bruce Cheatham III and daughter Erin Cook and grandchildren Audrey Cheatham and Bruce Cheatham IV, Kirk's sister Carol Manley and husband Richard, their daughter Shannon Cardwell, their sons Winston and Rich Manley, and Kirk's sister Elizabeth Riveire and husband Charles, and their son Chase. Kirk had a servant's heart. He was a selfless giver, caretaker, supporter, and defender for all of those he loved, be they family or friend. Our collective hearts are heavy from the loss of his radiant smile, quick wit, generous spirit, and unconditional acceptance of all in his life whom he held dear. A Celebration of Kirk's Life will begin at 12:00 Noon on Friday, February 26, 2021, in the Chapel at Eastgate Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Kirk's family requests donations in his memory be directed to the North Texas Food Bank.
