Molly Whitcomb Griffin Hampton was born in 1936 to John C. and Vera M. Griffin in Anderson, SC. She graduated from Belton High School in 1954, and then attended Anderson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1957 as a Registered Nurse. She later earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina. Over the years, Molly held various nursing positions at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC, Cannon Memorial Hospital in Pickens, SC, and Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. She finished her nursing career as a school nurse for the Oconee County School District. Molly was a member of First Baptist Church of Clemson where she sang in the Chancel Choir, was a member of the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class, and served on various committees. She was a member of Clemson University Woman's Club, The Clemson Garden Club where she served as President from 2003-3004, a member of the Tea and Talk Book Club in Clemson, and she was a Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow. Molly is survived by her husband of 63 years, James W. Hampton, of the home; three sons, Thomas W. Hampton and wife, Cheryl, of Niceville, FL, William G. Hampton and wife, Jennie, of Charleston, SC, and James M. Hampton, of Alpharetta, GA; and two grandsons, Thomas J. Hampton of Niceville, FL, and Jared W. Hampton, of Austin, TX. She was predeceased by sisters, Mary Francis Russell, Bessie Beam, Sara Poston, Louise Smith, Anne Yost, and Gladys Almeraz; and 3 brothers, William, Charles, and Albert Griffin. A memorial service will be held at Clemson First Baptist Church on Saturday, November 27th at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Clemson First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Clemson First Baptist Church Columbarium Fund, 397 College Ave, Clemson, SC 29631.
