I was a Private in UNCSG-JSA when i met the Admiral. He was an outstanding officer that made time to talk with the grunts in the JSA . I have thought of him often over the years . It was an honor to serve at JSA and under the Admiral's command .

Because of the Navy life travels we lose track of wonderful people we had the pleasure of knowing. I just Happened to come across this obituary and was shocked that The Admiral passed away. My husband Dennis Roeber LCDR at the time was Admiral“s writer at Com Warfare in Charleston S. C. After many years in the Navy Dennis retired in 1991 as a CMDR What caught my attention was that before we moved to Florida to retire we found Admiral Horne alive in MT.Pleasant. Dennis got sicker on our move here and In 2021 the cancer got to his bones. He died on October 1st 2021. I noticed Admiral Horne died nearly a month later. The Lord works in mysterious ways. Your father, grandfather was a wonderful loving man. When Dennis was appointed to the Admiral“s staff he was single. But then showed up in S.C. Married to me. The Admiral kidded with me for 2years. Best life ever. The Navy. Sorry for your loss. Sincere Condolences Kathy Roeber Flora and I got along famously and I was always in awe of her. She taught me how to be a good Navy Wife. May they both Rest In Peace.

ADM Horne was my CO on the USS PUGET Sound in the middle seventies. At that time, I was a young 20 yr old enlisted man. I also went on to a career in the Navy, becoming a physician after being enlisted and retiring after 30 years. In all that time, ADM Horne was the only CO that I can remember. ADM Horne was an outstanding CO, and even though I am but one of thousands of men and women who served in his command I do believe his example started me on this path. For that, I will always be grateful.

Such a Pleasure meeting the Admiral in November 2017. I was President of the Mt. Pleasant Exchange Club and Honored Admiral Horne at our Veterans Appreciation Luncheon. It was a Wonderful Event !!! 100 people were in attendance to listen to Admiral Horne. Our Friendship Blossomed from that day forward as he became a Dear Friend until the day he left us November 29, 2021. God's Peace and Love to the Family !! The United States Flag flying over Shem Creek Crab House Dock is in Memory and Honor of Admiral Charles F. Horne III

I served under Admiral Horne for 3 1/2 years at COMINEWARCOM. He was the strongest advocate for Mine Warfare that community ever had. He was fearless and never backed down from spreading his Mine Warfare message. While some may have questioned his approach at times, there was never any doubt concerning his sincerity and dedication to his task. I was privileged to have known and worked with him.

Fond memories of playing tennis with Chuck on the Charleston Navy Base courts in the 1980s---always competitive but lots of fun! A true gentleman and patriot. Condolences to the family.

Admiral Horne was the best part of my day when he would call us at Belva's Flower Shop. He was so full of love and kindness. He sent flowers all the time to show his appreciation to others. We will always be remembered and forever be in my heart.

The Admiral was the best neighbor in the world for 25 years. He was a true gentlemen in every respect. Always so thoughtful with flowers and lunch dates. We will miss him, but know that he is so happy to be in heaven with Miss Flora. We send our condolences to Charles and Carolyn and their families.
