Joseph Lion Obituary

Published by John F Givnish Funeral Home - Academy Rd on Feb. 8, 2022.
Family, Friends and Loved Ones are Invited to Joe's Celebration of Life on Monday February 14th, 2022 - 9-11am followed by a Celebratory Memorial service at the Christian Life Center, 3100 Galloway Road in Bensalem PA. Joe is the Beloved Husband of 39 Years to Nancy Doria Lion. A tall and handsome, Ukrainian and German Perfect Gentleman from Kensington coming into this big Italian Family….Meeting Papa Tony and Mama Lena for the First time…They Loved him from the start…..Somehow through the years, that was flip flopped and Joe developed such a love for our "Italian Traditions" He eventually became the Italian Patriarch of our Family….Learning all the Italian words and gestures, (usually mis-prounounced) and his love for cooking delicious meals for an army became well known….and looked forward to what was Poppy making! Joe was an amazing Role Model to Joe and Nick, A Rock of Wisdom, and his Faith and Belief in God and Jesus was his Pillar of Strength. He shared this with everyone he met and who would listen to his never ending analogies and stories. He was a voice of reason to everyone he Loved, not just to his two Sons…..He was respected and loved so dearly by everyone! Father of Joseph Anthony Lion & His wife Natalie DeVuono and Nicholas William Lion & His Wife Nicole Murray, He was a Father who was always present and supportive, through thick and thin no matter the circumstances. Our Family Motto…..LION STRONG…… Gracie, Devon & Scarlett will miss their Poppy terribly and all the fun times we spent together, taking them to school, having sleep overs at Grammy's and out on our weekend adventures exploring. The girls will miss running and squealing to "Poppy Monster" and dancing silly to "My Cousin Vinny" over and over and over again….. Joe Loved his Brothers and Sisters tremendously….even though throughout the years some of our Loved ones spread out to Florida, distance meant nothing….Their bond was unbreakable despite the miles between them….Kathleen & Chick (Deceased) Schaeffer, Beverly & Dr. Joel Sukonik, William & Sandy (Deceased) Lion, Michael & Donna Lion and Robert (Deceased ) & Cynthia Popow…He adored ou all so much…….Joe was Preceded in death by his Parents, William & Mary (Popow) Lion. Loving Uncle Joe to 22 Nieces and Nephews, Great Uncle Joe to 21 Nieces and Nephews and most recently Great Great Uncle Joe to Baby Nathan…He will be sorely missed by all of them, some he filled the roles of another father and he loved each and everyone of you like his own children….. Joe was a North Catholic Proud Graduate. He was a Retired Union Carpenter Journeyman Local #122 for 35 years with distinguished Master Carpenter Skills. Most recently he was a dedicated and Loyal Parx Casino Security Officer, where he leaves many friends behind to proudly carry the post for him…… Joe was a committed Advocate to Conquering Life Prison and Recovery Ministries, Inc. (CLPRM) helping those in need and their families, struggling with addiction. He was always available to anyone anytime and did whatever he could to help them….. Joe's Earthly Wealth was measured by his countless friends, his Love for his Family, and anyone he met. If you were one of the Blessed ones to know and Love him, He had many humorous stories and analogies and could make conversation with anyone. I'm sure everyone has at least one funny memory or story of Uncle Joe or Cigar Joe that you will hold close to your Heart Forever as you remember and Honor this Great Man. His Heavenly Wealth is immesurable… We lived a wonderful God filled life full of family, friends, exciting adventures, vacations and our passion was going to the beaches or just spending time with friends and family. When you think of Joe, imagine him sitting in his beach chair for hours, smoking his cigar and talking to everyone walking by…..or relaxing on the deck with his Wine and Cigar or just walking his best bud Bully at the park….and talking to everyone he encountered…. This is his Legacy…..The Heart of a Lion! He will be Loved and Missed for Ever and Ever….Until we Meet Again my Love……. In Lieu of flowers, our Family is requesting donations be made to Conquering Life Prison & Recovery Ministries, Inc. c/o Memory of Joseph Lion/ Sanctuary Building Fund. It was part of Joe's dream to one day see that next phase of CLPRM come to fruition. Please visit www.CLPRM.org

I met Joe at Parx. We got to talking. I come from Kensington and also went to North Catholic . Very nice and friendly man . We would joke around whenever I saw him. I would say or he would say "Yo Kenzo" . I think of him when I walk in the doors all the time. Me and my wife miss him.

We are so sorry to read this about Joe, we pray for his family. As his neighbors we often crossed paths or ride by and we would always get a big wave or a smiling hello. Even though we didn’t know him other than as a neighbor we are so sorry for his family’s loss.

I am so sad to hear about the loss of Joe. I worked with him at the casino as a dealer. He was the nicest, most genuine person. There wasn't a person at work that didn't greet Joe when they saw him. Everyone knew and loved him. I've had the pleasure to have a few conversations with Joe and he was always so personable and kind. We talked about how he was a North Catholic alum and how his children went to Archbishop Ryan (I also attended Ryan). He reminded me so much of so many people I know who were also either from Kensington or went to North Catholic. I felt like I knew him for ages when I had just met him. I am so sorry for your family's loss. It is apparent that your family loved him very much. I am sure that Joe's memory will live on through all of you! Praying for strength for your family.
