Mr. William P. Marqus, of Watertown, formerly of Waltham, died Sunday, February 13, 2022 in Newton Wellesley Hospital. He was 76. Bill was born on February 21, 1945, a son of the late Daniel and Doris (Mazochi) Marqus. He was raised in Waltham and graduated from Saint Charles High School. In 1964, he joined the United States Air Force and served honorably during the Vietnam War. After his service, he returned home in 1968 and started his courtship with Rosemarie Cannistraro. A year later, the two were married in Saint Charles Borromeo Church and settled in Waltham to start their family. They later moved to Watertown in 1977. Bill Marqus was first and foremost a family man . . . and a coach— a lot of the time these were the same thing. This was evident by his unwavering appearances at his three grandsons' sporting events. Not only was he a coach, he was also a pretty good athlete in his day too. He was an all-state and all Catholic conference player in baseball, and a stand out basketball player at Saint Charles High School. Later in life, he enjoyed traveling and golf with his wife Rosemarie. His wife and children were his life, and his grandchildren completed him; his last words were to make sure his grandkids knew how much he loved them. Before his recent retirement, Bill worked for many years as the purchasing manager at QinetiQ North America, formerly, Foster-Miller, a defense engineering and technology firm in Waltham. Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rosemarie (Cannistraro) Marqus; his children, Jennifer Blakely and her husband, Edward of Waltham and Stephanie Stratton and her husband, Michael of Hingham; his three grandchildren, Brenden Blakely, Michael and Matthew Stratton; his siblings, Lorraine M. Bissett (Thomas) of Ohio, Daniel D. Marqus of Haverhill, Nancy R. Silva (late John) of Waltham, Albert J. 'Rocky' Marqus (late Patricia) of Waltham, Christopher Marqus of Sudbury and the late Thomas S. Marqus. He is also survived by nieces & nephews. Family and friends will honor and remember Bill's life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Thursday, February 17th from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Friday morning before leaving in procession to Saint Luke's Church, 132 Lexington Street, Belmont where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will be on Tuesday, February 22nd in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 11:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association by visiting https://www.lung.org/

To the Marqus family.

Today I was sorry to hear the news of Bill's passing. I worked with him for a short time in Waltham and really enjoyed his company. He was always good for a story, some advice, and was a big part of us just having a laugh, especially at the company golf outing.

My sympathies to all the family and to his many friends.

Respectfully,
Mike

My sincere condolences to the whole extended Marqus family. My brother, Gilbert Scott, was one of the four boys from Waltham who enlisted on the same day. Gilbert also joined the Air Force. I remember Bill from Bicycle Park and the south side. What a great guy! Always a pleasure to talk with. I went to school with Nancy, and worked with Rocky. After I was older, Bill's mother was my "across the fence" neighbor. A terrific family! So sorry for your loss.

Sorry to have read of his passing. He always managed to talk to me when we used to go that chateau restaurant. Bills mom Doris was a cousin of mine. The grandmother was a first cousin to my mother Julia Mangini.

From the first day I met Bill at Foster-Miller (QinetiQ) it was a continuous back and forth friendly (and loud) sometimes Not Suitable For Work banter between us. We played many rounds of golf together in the company league at Sandy Burr Country Club, and he graciously brought me to his "home" course Patriot at Hanscom AFB several times.
He is a sincere, honest guy, and straight shooter.....pretty unusual for an Air force guy! (I always gave him grief about the Air force)!!
I was in the Navy and he never let me hear the end of it.....

Billy was a such a good guy, he would always ask me about sports and my dad Kevin at Conway golf, always busting chops, but always with a smile....he will be missed. I texted several other Waltham friends/class of 1991 regarding his passing, and received several responses saying how much they enjoyed playing baseball for coach Marqus. He will be missed....

Bill was a genuine person whom I admired. I loved stopping into his office, whether it be handing him a requisition to purchase something, or just to chat about the days events. He was very charismatic, involved in almost everything, and it was a pleasure to listen to his big voice, and even better to hear his distinguishing laugh... He talked about coaching, and so many other things where I knew he was involved in all aspects of his families life. I am so sorry for your loss. He brought a lot of joy to me and others working in a typical office environment.
