Benjamin (Ben) H. Alsip, Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones on April 1, 2022, at 98 years of age. Born on October 18, 1923, in Mountainburg, AR, he lived the majority of his life in Louisiana, including Ponchatoula, Hammond and Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin H. Alsip, Sr. and Alice Hobbs Alsip, of Conway, AR, and his wife of 73 years, Betsy Alsip, of Chester, AR. He is survived by his daughters Julie Alsip Hudson and husband Randy of Hoover, AL, Diane Alsip Butler and husband Sammie of Baton Rouge, LA, son Ben David Alsip and wife Leann of Greenwell Springs, LA; seven grandchildren, Scott Hudson, Lindsey Hudson Jones and husband Brian, Jeff Hudson and wife Jenna, Ben Latil, Katherine Alsip Fleury and husband Torrey, Layne Alsip and Wil Alsip; 14 great grandchildren, Shane Davis, Porter Davis, Julian Alsip, Link Fleury, Violet Fleury, Takara Fleury and Akira Fleury, Ruby Hudson, Ben Jones, Jenlyn Hudson, Juliana Hudson, Ben Lee Alsip, Ava Alsip and Melody Alsip; sister, JoNell Alsip Lowry of Conway, AR. Ben served in the United States Marine Corp in World War II - among other duties, he was the ship cartoonist. Each letter he wrote to Betsy, his parents and sister had a cartoon drawn on the envelope showing his sense of humor and artistic talent. He was stationed in Tianjin China as a Corporal guarding the bridges. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1946 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology, then taught at Ponchatoula High School, Ponchatoula, LA. In 1949 he received his Master of Science degree from LSU where he taught for fifteen years. He spent two years at the University of Arkansas working on his Doctorate. In 1964 he returned to Fayetteville, AR the summer term to complete his dissertation and received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Arkansas in 1965. Ben became Head of the Industrial Technology Department, Southeastern Louisiana University in 1968 and retired in 1984. Ben was a true people person, always regaling friends and family with stories of his fishing trips and years of teaching. He stayed in touch with several of his students who became good friends. He frequently ran into former students who fondly remembered him well. He loved his LSU Tigers and received great pleasure for many years playing the card game Cadillac. Pallbearers will be Brian Jones, Jeff Hudson, Scott Hudson, Ben Jones, Jim Kiker and Chris Deer. Honorary pallbearers will be John Searles and Jim Owens. The family would like to especially thank Terrence Gayton and Chris Clay for their loving care, friendship and support. On Sunday, April 3, the visitation will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd, Hammond, LA from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Barry Chance. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, 41372 Thompson Dr. Hammond, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the American Heart Association, . Always grateful for his legacy of children, who are such a good part of my life. Semper Fi for his brotherhood of Marine Corps Service and truly one of the greatest of greatest generation. Special Love for Julie and Randy Hudson 2 of most Loved and joyful memories from Lee High, Broadmoor, and LSU days. My mom Loved you all also! Way too many or greatest generation gone home to Our Lord.
