Gloria Fern Osterling

Gloria Fern Osterling, age 90, of Richland passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon, July 19, 2022. Gloria was born in Plainwell, Michigan on October 25, 1931, the daughter of Glenn M. and Fern J. (Norris) Cutler and graduated from Augusta High School with the Class of 1949 and also graduated from the Bronson Methodist School of Nursing in 1952. Over the next 60 years, Gloria served as an RN at Bronson & Borgess Hospitals, the VA Medical Center, Kellogg's, and various physician's offices. Gloria married Carl Fred Osterling at the Augusta United Methodist Church on October 11, 1952; he sadly preceded her in death on October 27, 2021. She is survived by her daughters, Ellen (Philip) VanHammen of Traverse City, Maria (David) Schmit of Indiana, and Elaine (John) Severson of North Muskegon; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Osterling of Galesburg; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and her brothers, John and Bill. Gloria was also sadly preceded in death by her sons, Bradley in 1980 and Brian in February of this year; an infant daughter; her parents; and her brothers, Robert and Glenn. Gloria was an active member of the Gull Lake United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Bronson Alumni Association and the Accordion Club. She loved working as a nurse, baking cookies for her grandkids and the church, dancing with Carl, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Inurnment services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 28th at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, and a memorial service to celebrate her life will follow at 12:00 noon, Thursday at the Gull Lake United Methodist Church 8640 Gull Road, Richland, MI 49083. A luncheon and visitation will follow the memorial service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gull Lake United Methodist Church or Centrica Care Navigators.
