Charles Scheer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service - Manchester Avenue Chapel - Wabash on Nov. 17, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Charles Timothy "Tim" Scheer, 73, of Bowling Green, Ohio, on Sunday, November 16th at 6:43am at The Willows of Bowling Green. Tim is resting with his Heavenly Father after a long battle with dementia. He was born on March 13, 1952, in Wabash, Indiana, to Charles Lewis and Susanna (Good) Scheer, who preceded him in death. Tim married Janalyn Draper on December 10, 1988 at Beaver Dam United Methodist Church and she survives. Other survivors include his children Logan (Megan) Scheer of Aurora, CO, and Haley (Palmer) Bandy of Burien, WA, and his grandsons, Charles Remington "Remy" Scheer and Avery Finn Bandy, as well as many members of his extended family and friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Tim was a follower of Christ and a devoted husband, father and Papi. Tim proudly earned his bachelor's degree from Ball State University in chemistry with a minor in mathematics. Prior to getting his degree, Tim worked as a welder for a number of years. Post-degree, Tim held positions with progressively more scope and responsibility in the rubber industry, first at GenCorp in Wabash, IN, then at Syracuse Rubber Products in Syracuse, IN, Kingston-Warren Rubber Corporation in Wytheville, VA, Crossville Rubber Products in Crossville, TN and finally at Cooper Standard Automotive, Bowling Green, OH where he spent 19 years as a lab manager and chemist before his early retirement due to a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed in 2014.
In his personal life, Tim was a member of Monclova Road Baptist Church in Monclova, OH. He was an active member of The Gideons International, an Association of Christian Business and Professional Men committed to spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the distribution of God's Holy Word worldwide. As a young man, Tim sought membership in the Elk's and the Mason's and enjoyed special friendships in those fraternal organizations.
Tim was deliberate in his speech and felt deeply. He enjoyed reading books about the U.S. Civil War and Indiana history as well as the poetry of John Keats and Robert Frost. He passed along his love of reading and appreciation of poetry to his children. Following his decision to trust Christ as his personal Savior in 2001, Tim's daily reading was focused on the Word of God. His strong desire was to know and make known the Lord God. This sparked his faithful service to The Gideons. He joined the Wood County camp of The Gideons International in 2005. Here he found great purpose serving with likeminded men and women in the ministry. His service in local and state offices for the ministry contributed to building the Kingdom of God and the gaining of valued friendships which impacted Tim for eternity.
Tim's children have fond memories of their dad cooking pancakes and listening to Car Talk radio show on a Saturday morning. He found great enjoyment in jumping in his truck and meandering through the countryside. Tim renewed his love for motorcycles in 2007 when he purchased his first Harley Davidson. This began a season of roadtrips for Tim and Jana across the United States including a cross country adventure in 2013 from Bowling Green, Ohio to Spokane, WA. Tim absolutely loved to explore new territory on back roads and less traveled highways.
When dementia had taken much of his memory, Tim never forgot the way back home to Wabash and didn't shy away from directing whomever was driving him - "Right here. Now left." Trips through Wabash and Lagro sparked some of his sweetest growing up memories. He also loved gardening and always planted two seeds in the same hole, his grandmother Scheer having firmly believed and instilled in Tim that "things always grow better in pairs". Recently Tim's most treasured times were playing cards and spending time at Beaver Dam Lake with family and friends.
In our hearts, Tim will always be "Back Home Again in Indiana" retelling his childhood memories and enjoying the sunshine on his face as he sat by the lake. Going to "the water" brought him much joy. Keats famously wrote, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever; its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness," and this is true of our Tim. May his memory be a blessing.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Meadows of Ottawa and The Willows of Bowling Green for their amazing love and concern in caring for Tim in his final years. In addition, the family offers their heartfelt thanks to Putnam County Homecare and Hospice as well as Bridge Hospice for their overwhelming support, insight, and amazing care for Tim. His friends and caregivers remember his sweet spirit and his beaming smile. We rest assured Tim has looked into the face of his Savior knowing that "precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints"-Psalm 116:15.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Friday, November 21, 2025, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with Dave Laborde officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Visitation for family and friends will be 3-7 pm Thursday, and 10-11 am, Friday, both at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate gifts to The Gideons International in memory of Tim, through online giving at www.gideons.org or www.sendtheword.org.
