Born: September 25, 1937 in Joliet, IL
Died: December 31, 2025 in New Castle, IN
Jackie Marie Manthei, 88, of New Castle, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, December 31, 2025, at Addison Place in New Castle.
She was born on September 25, 1937, in Joliet, Illinois, a daughter of the late Melvin and Phyllis (Yuneman) Lener. Jackie was raised in the Joliet area and was a 1955 graduate of Joliet Township High School.
On October 6, 1956, Jackie married the love of her life, David Henry Manthei. Together they shared 67 years of devoted marriage, building a life centered on family, faith, and hard work. Before marriage, Jackie worked at A&P Grocery, and later devoted herself to her family as a homemaker. She also worked alongside others at Pease Rolling Shutters during its early beginnings.
Jackie was a longtime and faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Castle, where she served as Altar Chairwoman. She was proud of her independence and known for her ornery streak, which was always balanced by kindness, gratitude, and a deep appreciation for life. A loyal Chicago Cubs fan, she also enjoyed working crossword puzzles in her quieter moments. Above all else, Jackie considered her children to be her greatest accomplishment and joy.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two children, Rick (Darlene) Manthei and Linda Cecil, both of New Castle; her grandchildren, Windi Bray, John Paul Stotler, Amanda Campbell, and Michael (Casey) Cecil; her great-grandchildren, Xander, Grant, Emma, Dallas, Weston, John Luke, and Peyton; and her sister, Sherry Pennington.
In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Henry Manthei, in March of 2024; a brother, John Lener; and a brother-in-law, Roger Pennington.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, New Castle, Indiana, with Deacon Jody Winter officiating. Burial will follow at South Mound Cemetery West Lawn Addition. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
