Nina Belle (Turner) Jacobs, 91, of New Castle, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, February 12, 2026, at Glen Oaks Health Campus.
She was born on March 30, 1934, in Crossville, Tennessee, a daughter of the late John and Amanda Jane (Elmore) Turner. Nina attended New Castle High School and, as a young woman, helped at Turner's Grocery Stores, where her strong work ethic and attention to detail were evident even then.
On November 2, 1968, she married John Jacobs, and together they built a life centered around faith, family, and hard work.
For more than 26 years, Nina served as a qualified medical assistant at the New Castle State Developmental Center, retiring in 1992. She took pride in her work and was known for being dependable, careful, and thorough. Her commitment to excellence and her caring spirit made a lasting impression on those she served and worked alongside. She was a member of the Retired Indiana Public Employees Association.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Nina was a long-time member of First Bible Freewill Baptist Church. Her church family was dear to her heart. For 11 years, she and John enjoyed wintering in Holiday, Florida, where they faithfully attended West Baptist Church. Whether in Indiana or Florida, Nina's life reflected her love for the Lord.
She found joy in the simple blessings of life – tending to her yard and garden, working crossword and giant jumble puzzles, and, most of all, spending time with her family and church family. She had a sharp mind, a steady spirit, and a quiet strength that anchored those around her.
Those left to cherish Nina's memory include her four children, Larry (Donna) Asberry of Jacksonville, FL, Vicki Browning of Arcadia, Sandra Neal of New Castle, and Tana (Charlie) Black of New Castle; two step-children, Wayne (Samantha) Jacobs of Mt. Summit and Scott (Cindy) Jacobs of Kennard; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Jacobs; a grandson, Matt Neal; a brother, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Friday. You may offer the family a personal condolence at www.sprolesfamilycares.com.
