Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sproles Family Funeral Home - New Castle on Apr. 18, 2026.
Beverly (Martin) Vaughn, 82, of New Castle, passed away early Friday morning, April 17, 2026, at Addison Place.
She was born on January 11, 1944, in
Dunreith, Indiana, a daughter of the late Roland H. and Dorothy (Stover) Martin.
Beverly was a 1963 graduate of Cadiz High School. She worked for many years as a Nurse's Aide at Henry County Memorial Hospital in New Castle, where she was known for her kind and caring heart. She later served as a houseparent at the Soldiers and Sailors Children's Home in Knightstown, a role that reflected her natural ability to nurture and love others. She retired in 1997, choosing to begin a new and meaningful chapter of life as she married her lifelong sweetheart, Charles Vaughn, Jr.
They were united in marriage on June 14, 1997, at the Northside Church of God in New Castle, where Beverly attended faithfully for many years. There, she poured herself into serving others-teaching Sunday School, helping with Bible School, participating in Christmas programs, and supporting many church events. She had a servant's heart and a way of making everyone feel welcome.
Beverly had an outgoing personality and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to laugh, enjoyed talking with others, and truly never met a stranger. She also loved to shop and took joy in finding just the right thing. More than anything, she loved deeply-especially her husband, Charles. Their love was steadfast and evident to all who knew them, and she cared for him with a devotion that never wavered.
Beverly remained close with many of the children from the home, and as they grew, married, and had families of their own, she became "Grandma" to them-and later "Great-Grandma." Being Grandma was one of the greatest joys and honors of her life.
She found happiness in life's simple pleasures-fishing in the ponds on their farm, swinging on the wraparound porch, and watching their beloved dog, Lacey, play. She enjoyed collecting cookbooks, canning her vegetable soup, and cooking, especially when it meant preparing meals for others. Beverly loved to entertain and had a special way of making guests feel at home around her table.
One of her proud accomplishments was learning to play the guitar, something she truly enjoyed.
Later in life, Beverly and Charles sold the farm and moved to town. After developing health problems, she faced them with quiet strength. One of her more difficult decisions was finding a new home for her beloved cockatiel, "Deano," who was 24 years old at the time. In God's providence, a loving family welcomed him into their home, and Beverly was able to visit and remain in touch.
Those left to cherish Beverly's memory include her loving husband of 28 years, Charles W. Vaughn; her sisters, Thelma Teeters of Lapel, Indiana, Dixie Shaffer of Markleville, Indiana, Pat (Merrill) Schuyler of Cape Coral, Florida, and Vicki Wise of Bellingham, Washington; a sister-in-law, Barbara Martin of Texas; her brother-in-law, Ken Lester of Arizona; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Billie Meyers (mother of her grandchildren).
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Martin and Ronnie Martin; two sisters, Debbie Martin and Sue (Hubert) Bilbrey; two sisters-in-law, Lois Martin and Carol Lester; three brothers-in-law, Norris Teeters, Denny Shaffer, and Billy Wise; and her beloved dog, Lacey.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Evans officiating. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
