Harry Bosco Obituary

Harry Gene Bosco Graduating from St. John's University intending a career in medicine, Harry Gene Bosco decided to enlist under the buddy system with his best friend for service in WWII. His friend didn't pass the physical, and Harry was deployed to one of the least sought after details in the Army ---the 82nd Airborne. Never having been in a plane, he was soon jumping out of them, and did so on hundreds of missions in five different theatres of the war. He was part of the advance for the Battle of Normandy, parachuting behind enemy lines two days before the invasion. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Harry Bosco was born April 24, 1918 in New York, and died peacefully February 27, 2009 at age 90 in Novato, California. His life's work was in the home furnishings business, as a respected expert on oriental rugs. He was universally liked, as a kind, generous, good humored and family-oriented husband, father, grandpa and great grandpa. He raised the tomatoes for his sauces, and could cook anything Italian, preparing an antipasto that took two days to make. He loved politics, sports, and mostly the many family gatherings at which he was the patriarch. Harry enjoyed a loving and enduring marriage with his wife, Barbara. He is survived by his children Douglas Bosco of Santa Rosa, Robin Atherton of Saratoga and Barbara Bergstrom of Reno, Nevada. He is predeceased by his beloved daughter, Caroll. His stepchildren are Carol Rowson, Roberta Gabe, and David Brown. He left behind seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Services are at Pleasant Hills Cemetery in Sebastopol at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009.
