Stanley H. Girdler

VIRDEN - Stanley Hugh Girdler, 68, of Virden, died on Monday, January 7, 2013 at St. John's Hospital.

Stanley was born on December 19, 1944, in Galesburg, the son of Hugh and Dorothy Pierson Girdler. He married Alice Griffith.

Mr. Girdler received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Western University. He was a teacher for Virden School District; retiring after 33 years of teaching. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #456.

He was preceded in death by his father and grandson, Kyle Meisenheimer.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Girdler of Virden; son, Mitch Girdler of Valparaiso, IN; step-daughters, Vickie (Scott) Lewis and Chicken (Brian) Willoughby both of Virden; step-son, Ricky (Dawn) Meisenheimer of Virden; mother, Dorothy Pierson of Springfield; five grandchildren; one great-grandson.

Cremation will be accorded by Springfield Crematory.

Memorial services will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to, Masonic Lodge #456, 100 Spruce St., Nokomis, IL 62075.

Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home, 530 N. 5th St., Springfield, IL 62702 is in charge of arrangements.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of teaching with Stan for several years. In 1994, when my daughter was in a car accident, Stan helped me out by giving me his lesson plans and study guides for Great Expectations. I was tutoring her at home and it made all the difference. He was a good man.
