October 12, 2020 "Saw the movie version of "Summer..." when I was a young girl. Ripped my heart out. Still revere the story this day. Rest in peace, my sister.
October 12, 2020 "I was introduced to her book "Summer of my German Soldier" in one of my child development and family studies. I re-read it so many times after my class was over. It was such a moving and touching story of the physical and emotional abuse of a wonderful young girl. The sequel was even more emotional. I was not at all surprised to hear the story was autobiographical because Betty was able to dig so deeply into the emotions of that child. She had to have experienced the treatment in order to describe her response to such cruelty. My sincere sympathy to the family. I hope all of your wonderful memories will sustain you in your time of grief. " - Joan Jordan (Fresno, CA)
