By the time of the 1953 armistice, 1.9 million Americans had served in the conflict – and 37,000 of them never came home. Frederick Charles Windbeck Jr. Frederick Charles Windbeck Jr., of Sandy Spring, MD, returned to his heavenly home on Jan. 8, 2021, after passing away at his home in Brooke Grove Retirement Village. Fred was born on June 2, 1933, to the late Fred Sr. and Martha (Llewellyn) Windbeck in Mauch Chunk (now Jim Thorpe).
