The Wahlbergs
Wahlberg was a mother of nine children, and she worked as a bank clerk and a nurse’s aide while she was raising them. She became well known in the years after her sons Donnie and Mark became famous as musicians in New Kids on the Block and Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. When her son Paul Wahlberg, a chef, opened the burger chain Wahlburgers along with Mark and Donnie, A&E launched the reality series “Wahlburgers” focusing on the restaurant and the family, including matriarch Alma. She made viewers smile as she joked around with her sons and called each one her favorite. Paul also opened another restaurant, the upscale Alma Nove, named in tribute to his mother.
Wahlberg on raising her children
“I wanted to give them the love that I always thought I wanted and never got. I wanted them to know I’m always there. Always, always. I may not like what you’re telling me, but I’m there for you and that’s it. That’s how they all are now. They’re there for me.” —from a 2018 interview on Today
