Andrea Fay Friedman’s legacy
The California-born Friedman got her start on screen with the landmark television show “Life Goes On,” which was the first television series to star an actor with Down syndrome, played by Chris Burke. Friedman appeared as Amanda, girlfriend and later wife of Burke’s character, Corky Thatcher. She was on the series for two seasons and 14 episodes in 1992 and 1993.
Friedman continued acting for the next 30 years. She appeared on “Baywatch,” “Touched by an Angel,” and “Chicago Hope” in the 1990s; had featured performances on “ER,” “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and “The Division” in the 2000s; and most recently, did voice work on the animated sitcom “Family Guy” and appeared in the television movie “Carol of the Bells.”
When not acting, Friedman worked at a Los Angeles law firm and as an assistant teacher for the Pathway program at UCLA. In 2008, a documentary was made about her life, “A Possible Dream: The Andrea Friedman Story.”
