Barbara Baldavin’s legacy
Baldavin had a string of minor television roles in the 1960s, including appearances on “The Fugitive” and “Rawhide,” but for many fans her most memorable work was as Angela, a communications officer in “Star Trek: The Original Series.” She appeared in three episodes, most notably the season one classic “Balance of Terror” and the bizarre “Shore Leave.”
Baldavin’s biggest success came in 1969, when she was cast as Nurse Holmby on the television drama “Medical Center.” She ended up being on the show for 52 episodes through 1976.
Though she continued to act through the 1970s, including appearances on “Adam-12,” “Columbo,” and “Mannix,” she transitioned to casting in the 1980s, serving as casting director or casting assistant for shows like “Dynasty,” “Trapper John M.D.,” and others.
