At least 100 people were killed in an explosion in Beirut on Tuesday. Thousands more are injured, and hundreds have been reported missing.
The explosion took place in a warehouse in Beirut’s port district, where a large amount of ammonium nitrate had been stored. Eyewitnesses said that it appeared a fire broke out in a nearby warehouse where fireworks were stored, and it spread with disastrous consequences.
Much of the city has been destroyed, and hundreds of thousands of residents may have been left homeless. The search for the missing is ongoing.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, called for a day of mourning on Wednesday.
