Biff Wiff’s legacy
Gary Crotty was better known by Wiff, his stage name, and those who knew his comedy knew what an offbeat character actor he could be.
Wiff got his start on screen in the 1980s on shows like “Night Court,” “Moonlighting,” and “Life Goes On,” while the ‘90s saw him in the dramas “L.A. Law,” and “Any Day Now.” His more notable roles came later in his career, especially two memorable sketches for the comedy show “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson,” in which he portrays a profane Santa Claus and Robinson’s “shirt brother.” He also played Rick in 2022’s highly acclaimed film, “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” appeared in the 2023 comedy thriller “Self-Reliance,” and – 35 years after his acting on the original Emmy Award-winning comedy – returned on the revival of “Night Court.”
Other roles of Wiff’s include work in “Westworld,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” and “Desperate Housewives.”
He had been suffering from cancer in recent years, with a GoFundMe fundraiser set up by friends to help with medical expenses.
