Chad McQueen’s legacy
Inspired by his father, screen icon Steve McQueen, Chad McQueen started racing at an early age, competing in dirt bike competitions at just 9 years old. Also like his dad, he began to work in front of the camera. After a modest debut in the 1978 film “Skateboard” as an unnamed skateboarder, he broke through in the role of Dutch, one of the Cobra Kai fighters in “Karate Kid.” The film was a big hit, and McQueen returned for the sequel two years later. He was also in the 1996 action movie “Red Line,” among others.
As a film producer, he helped bring “Red Line” to the screen, as well as works about his father, like the documentaries “I Am Steve McQueen” and “Steve McQueen: The Man and Le Mans.”
McQueen was also a professional race car driver, starting in the Sports Car Club of America. He also participated in motocross, Baja racing, and more. He has raced at the Daytona International Speedway, the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and other events. In 2010, he founded McQueen Racing, now run by his children with Jeanie Galbraith, Chase and Madison. He also had a son, Steven R. McQueen, with his first wife, Stacia Toten.
