Musical career
Hunt grew up in Chicago, where she was best friends with another young woman who would become a successful R&B singer, Minnie Riperton (1947–1979). She began recording music in the early 1960s and had several moderately popular singles in the 1960s and ‘70s. Her 1972 cover of “Baby, I Need Your Loving” cracked the Top 50 on the R&B music charts. But it wasn’t until 1980 that she would achieve her greatest success, with “Can’t Fake the Feeling.” The disco groove topped the dance chart in the U.S. as well as becoming a hit in France at the U.K. A 1981 duet with Charles Marotta, “Heart Heart,” did well on the dance and R&B charts. Hunt performed on TV shows including “Solid Gold.” Later, she worked as a songwriter and producer.
