Hurricane G (Gloria Rodriguez) was a pioneering New York rapper who was the first female member of the hip hop collective known as the Hit Squad.

Pioneering Rapper

Hurricane G (Gloria Rodriguez) was a Brooklyn-born rapper who was highly influential as one of the first female Puerto Rican rap artists. She worked with rapper Redman in the 1990s on his track “We Run N.Y.” and was the first female member of rap collective the Hit Squad which featured Redman and members of EPMD. She released her debut album in 1997 titled “All Woman” featuring the single “Somebody Else,” which reached the top ten on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart. Hurricane G rapped in English and Spanish and used the Nuyorican dialect of the New York City Puerto Rican community.
