Acting career
Douglas joined the cast of “The Young and the Restless” in 1982, taking over the role of John Abbott from Brett Halsey. He remained on the show for more than 30 years, continuing even after the 2006 death of his character. Abbott was the founder and chairman of Jabot Cosmetics, a fixture of the fictional town of Genoa City, Wisconsin. After Abbott died of a stroke, Douglas returned to “The Young and the Restless” as Abbott’s ghost a number of times over the years until his final appearance in 2016. Douglas also appeared in the movie “JFK” as well as in TV shows including “Mannix,” “Melrose Place,” “and “Arrested Development.”
