Musical career
Sims had her first success with her 1986 single “(You Are My) All and All,” which climbed the dance charts to No. 5. Her 1987 debut album, “Come into My Life,” included the popular title track. A hit at home on U.S. R&B radio, “Come into My Life” was even more popular in Europe, where it took off in countries including the U.K., West Germany, and the Netherlands. A 1995 dance remix revived the song’s popularity in U.K. clubs. Sims had later singles with moderate success including “Love Makes a Woman” and “Looking for a Love.” She continued recording into the 2010s, and her music was used in the movie “Species.”
Notable quote
“The industry has changed tremendously since the 80s. The major labels had all the power before the social media explosion. Artists now have much more control over their career and the outlets to get their music heard.” —from a 2015 interview for Female First
