Konstantin Koltsov (1981–2024), Belarusian hockey player

Konstantin Koltsov was a Belarusian hockey player who played for the Belarusian national team and spent parts of three seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins. 

Konstantin Koltsov’s legacy 

Born in Minsk, Koltsov made a name for himself on the ice thanks to his speed and reflexes, earning the nickname “Russian Rocket II” during his time playing in the Belarusian 1st division. He drew the attention of the National Hockey League (NHL) in the U.S. and was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he played on and off between 2003 and 2006. 

Koltsov returned to Europe after leaving the NHL, where he played with Salavat Yulaev Ufa and Atlant Mytishchi before retiring from play in 2016. He also competed in the Winter Olympics on behalf of Belarus in the 2002 and 2010 games. 

Koltsov had three children with his wife, Julia, whom he divorced in 2020. At the time of his death, he was dating Belarusian tennis player Aryna Sabalenka.
