Nelson starred in the classic monster movie “Revenge of the Creature,” a 1955 sequel to the 1954 film “Creature From the Black Lagoon.” In the movie, which was released in 3D, her character is kidnapped by an amphibious monster.
Nelson starred on the TV series “How to Marry a Millionaire” with Barbara Eden. Her character was written off after the first season. She also appeared in the Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin comedy “Pardners” and starred in B-movies “Hot Rod Girls” and “Untamed Youth.”
Nelson, who was once engaged to actor Burt Reynolds, saw her acting career stall in the early 1960s.
She did not want the role in “Revenge of the Creature”
“I played opposite Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis, Jimmy Stewart, Dean Martin and Audie Murphy, but who’s the leading man everybody wants to ask me about? The Gill Man! It’s so funny, Universal had to twist my arm a little to be in a monster movie. But if I knew then how popular they would remain, I would have twisted their arm to be in a couple more.” —From “The Creature Chronicles: Exploring the Black Lagoon Trilogy” by Tom Weaver
