Lynne Marta’s legacy
Marta got her start on TV in the mid-1960s, making early appearances in “Gidget,” “The Monkees,” and “The Outsider.” In 1969, she joined the cast of the anthology show “Love, American Style” as one of its regular players. Marta remained busy on TV throughout the ‘70s, with appearances on such shows as “The Mod Squad,” “Gunsmoke,” “Kojak,” “Medical Center,” “Barnaby Jones,” “CHiPs,” and “Charlie’s Angels.” Romantically linked with David Soul (1943–2024) for several years, she appeared in three episodes of “Starsky & Hutch.”
The ’80s brought small but notable film roles for Marta: In “Footloose,” she played Lulu Warnicker, aunt of Kevin Bacon’s Ren. And in “Three Men and a Little Lady,” she played a schoolteacher. Marta continued to work on TV in the ‘80s and beyond, appearing on shows like “Knight Rider,” “Designing Women,” “The Young & the Restless,” “Caroline in the City,” and “ER.” She also appeared on 24 episodes of “Days of Our Lives,” playing Charlene Higgins and Zantra.
