Matt Ulrich’s legacy
Ulrich was a star athlete at Streamwood High School, where he competed in track and football and won All-State and All-Midwest honors in the latter. When he took the field at Northwestern University, his leadership led to him being named team captain in 2004. There, he took All-Big Ten Honorable Mention, helped lead the team to two Bowl games, and won a Big Ten title with them in 2000.
Ulrich signed with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent in 2005, where he was an offensive guard. He played 10 games with the team in the 2005 and 2006 seasons, the highlight of which was being part of the Colts’ Super Bowl XLI-winning team in 2007. He considered their victory over the Chicago Bears one of his career highlights.
After leaving the NFL, Ulrich went into the fitness business to help young athletes excel. He cofounded Dexa Fit, was a director with Profitable Ideas Exchange, and was director of operations and sports performance at the Chicago-based Winning Edge Athletics. Ulrich is survived by his wife, Alison, and four sons.
