At least three people died when an Amtrak train derailed in Montana on Saturday, September 25. At least 50 others were injured, with seven hospitalized.
The Empire Builder was traveling from Chicago to Seattle, with more than 150 people on board, when it derailed near Joplin, a town in north-central Montana. Investigators are seeking the cause of the derailment.
The names of the victims of the derailment have been released:
Zach Snyder, 28, of Fairview Heights, Illinois. He was traveling on vacation with his wife, who survived.
Don Varnadoe of Glynn County, Georgia. He was a retired real estate agent traveling with his wife, who also died.
Margie Varnadoe, of Glynn County, Georgia. She was a teacher, principal, personnel director and assistant superintendent in the Glynn County School System.
