Noel Duggan (1949–2022), founding member of Irish band Clannad

by Kirk Fox

Noel Duggan was an Irish musician who was a founding member of the family folk band Clannad.

Clannad

Noel Duggan started the band Clannad with his twin brother Patrick and their nieces and nephews in the early 1970s. The band was known for playing a variety of styles including traditional Irish, folk, and Celtic rock. Their biggest hit song was the “Theme from Harry’s Game,” which was the theme song for the miniseries “Harry’s Game” set in The Troubles in Northern Ireland. The song was a top five hit in 1982 in Ireland and the United Kingdom. The band scored the 1980s British TV series “Robin of Sherwood.” Family member Enya was briefly in the band and went on to a successful solo career. Clannad won a Grammy Award and was the first band to perform in the Irish language on the BBC show “Top of the Pops.”
