Otis Redding III’s legacy
Born just three years before his father’s fatal plane crash into Wisconsin’s Lake Monona, Redding grew up to follow in his footsteps. He co-founded the Reddings alongside his brother, Dexter Redding, who played bass, and Mark Lockett, who sang lead vocals as well as playing drums and keyboards. Their 1980 debut album yielded the hit single “Remote Control.” Further singles included “Doin’ It,” “Hand Dance,” and “The Awakening,” as well as a cover of their father’s hit, “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay.”
The Reddings recorded six albums before dissolving in the late 1980s, but Redding continued to perform and record. He also worked with the Otis Redding Foundation, which organizes music camps for children in Georgia.
