Gasienica competed for Team USA in the 2022 Olympics, though he didn’t medal. He placed 49th on the normal hill and 53rd on the large hill. Before he made it to the Olympics, he was also on Team USA at the FIS Junior World Ski Championships in 2016 and 2017. He grew up skiing from an early age on the hills at the Norge Ski Club in northern Illinois.
Notable quote
“Not a lot goes through your mind while you’re going down the hill. At takeoff, however, I tend to get hyper-focused, and all other thoughts go out the window besides what I need to do. I get into the flow state on top of muscle memory, so it’s difficult to try to think of anything else other than what you need to do at that takeoff.” —from a 2023 interview for Country magazine
